Yes, I went cheesy with this post title, but hey. This is what an ice storm can do for you.
Look at what I captured by day and by night:

I’m one of those people who believe in the renewal inherent in starting a new year. It might be silly but in January all seems new and the year feels full of possibilities.
It was this spirit that brought me to Karen Walrond’s journaling class Create.2014. It was a unique and interesting way to get in touch with your vision for 2014. One of her exercises was to create a vision board centered on a particular word or theme that will be pivotal for you in the upcoming year. I chose the word “balance,” since what I needed more than anything was to find balance in this year. And I then set out to create my first ever vision board.
What do you think?

I think February is the month when you get a little stir crazy and want to find something outdoors to shoot. So I decided to walk around and see what I could find in the front yard. Behold:

OK, this one isn’t nature, but work with me here!

Did I mention that macro photography is fun?!
Hello friends,
Welcome to the new Eclectic Journey Photography website and blog! Had to spiff things up around here a bit.
Now before I introduce the pictures, I want to make one thing clear: these will be the worse pictures you ever see posted on this blog! Why? Because I took them with my crappy point and shoot which functions worse than my iPhone! As we were volunteering for the Martin Luther King Day of Service, I didn’t want to lug around The Precious. That notwithstanding, I wanted to commemorate the fact that for the first time, the 3 of us went to volunteer together. That could make you overlook some technically imperfect pictures, right?

I love this one. She decided what to write by herself:

Somehow at the end she wanted to give a speech!

The reason I started the Me & My Kid(s) photo project 3 years ago is that since my mom passed in 2005, I realized how few pictures I had of her and how few I had of her with me. I can’t even say that I have 10 photos of her and me together. I didn’t want my daughter to have the same fate when she grew up.
Yet my younger brother brought me to tears one recent Christmas when he sent me some images that I had never seen. They were stored in an old album that he found as we cleared out my stepfather’s home for sale. One photo was a particular treasure. It depicted me being held by my mother, surrounded by my grandparents and other family. I couldn’t believe my luck. A photo of my mother actually holding me! I was dumbfounded.
Today I took the copy that my brother had had scanned and printed and attempted to bring back some of the richness and detail that had been lost.
Here is the original:

As you can see, there were a lot of dust and scratches, as well as a bizarre sepia tinting and color fading in the blacks.
I worked and worked and came up with this:

Maybe I hit the contrast too much in this one. Let me try lowering it a smidgen… Here we go:

That looks good! What do you think?
